Boa Lace System Repair

This is a sequence of photos and assistance for replacing the Boa dial on a Lake MX168 MTB shoe.  Boa Systems tech support will kindly mail you a repair kit at no cost.  It takes 3 weeks to arrive in Canada.  The kit is in a little zip-lock bag with a cardboard label and contains an instruction brochure, the new dial, gear, wire (lace) and Torqx T6 tool.

The instruction brochure looks like this ... front:

Note that there is a left and a right set of parts.  They are coloured differently and the unique parts are have an L or R on them.  Remove the old inner gear and wire by cutting the wire with a pair of side-cutters and removing.

Lace the new wire, finishing with the ends through the holes on the sides of the Boa base.  The instructions say leave 10-15cm lengths on each end.

Follow the instructions, to lace each end into the internal gear.

The end rests in a little "corner" on the inside of the gear.

The first time doing it is a little finicky, but you will get better at it on the next end ;-)
Here is the gear with both ends tied and pulled tight, with the looping and ends clear of the centre hole.

Place the internal gear in the Boa housing by pulling on the wires to take up the slack, while inserting.

Insert the Torqx tool into the dial and make sure it fits firmly seated in the screw head.

Tighten the screw to attach the dial to the housing.  It will have a definite stopping point that you can feel as you tighten.
